Every year, the Port of Tacoma is honored to participate in the Monkeyshines Tacoma treasure hunt. Our custom-made glass floats are hidden in different public locations across Pierce County. This joyful Lunar New Year tradition celebrates community and the connections that can be forged through curiosity.
Monkeyshines FAQ
- What do the 2026 Port Monkeyshines look like?
This year’s floats are red and white glass orbs, each stamped on the bottom with a special Year of the Horse seal.
- Where will they be hidden?
Our team will hide a total of 23 Port Monkeyshines—each in a different city or town across Pierce County—on the night of February 16.
- Why are they hidden across Pierce County instead of just in Tacoma?
The Port of Tacoma serves the entire county, so we wanted to include all of our constituents.
- How do I find one?
Head out to parks and other publicly accessible areas and explore! You might find a Port Monkeyshine or another work of art crafted by Ms. Monkey's team.
- Can you give me a hint about where to find one?
Sorry—no hints! Clues take away from the spirit of the hunt. But we wish you lots of luck in finding one!
- Will any be hidden at the Port?
Possibly! If so, they’ll be placed only in publicly accessible locations.
- Who made them?
All Port Monkeyshines are created by the talented students at Hilltop Artists.
- What should I do if I find one?
Enjoy it, and may it bring you good fortune in the new year! We'd also love to see your discovery—please snap a photo and share it on Facebook or Instagram, tagging @PortofTacoma!
